Fine art photographs are created to fulfill the creative vision of artist. This genre of photography can be defined the opposite genre of photojournalism and commercial photography. For commercial photography the main purpose is to sell a good or service, also photojournalism tends to capture the events, conditions in order to document and present them to the public. But in fine art photography the main purpose is to satisfy artist’s need for art. Also we can simply call it art photography because of this. It is a little bit selfish when we consider this side of fine art photography. Photographer of art photography doesn’t carry doubts about public opinion or doesn’t have the fear of being disapproved.

We can define it as; art for art’s sake. In this category of photography, photographer shows us his/her understanding of beauty and aesthetic. So the outcome of art photography is unique, at least it must be unique. There are some respected photography masters that are really good at art photography while there are some others that repeating themselves and the work of other art photographers. Well i strongly argue that this is art photography. Art photography should be unique and show us the beauty of world form the eyes and mind of the photographer. Repeating and doing the same work of others is not art.
I respect artists and and all the efforts for art. But i also criticise it in one point; art should be non-profit seeking, i respect that idea but i don’t think people who are telling this sentence is sincere most of the time. I also respect commercial photographers and i think they are more sincere, they are offering their service for a price and some successful photographers have an artistic side even in their works of commercial photography. What i appreciate most here is the honesty of people, commercial photographers are not saying “i’m doing this for art not money”. But i don’t understand why some (most) art photographers claim that they are not making this job for money but for art while they are selling their work in art galleries or in limited edition photography books for a considerably expensive amount of money. I mean what is the point? I respect both commercial and art photographers but as long as they are honest. If a person selling his/her work of art shouldn’t be claim that “i’m not doing this for money”. There’s nothing to be ashamed of selling works of art, just be honest and tell the truth. I don’t intend to offend or disrespect anybody i’m just telling if a person is professional, than it means he/she is doing the job for living, the main purpose is earning money not “art” and there’s nothing to be ashamed of this.
The ones who doesn’t take pictures, or perform any kind of art for money, are the amateurs. As one of them, i also respect amateurs, appreciate their creativity and their efforts for art and photography. Even if you go pro, do not lose the amateur soul of yours.
In sum, art photography is a respected genre of photography whether it is for art or for it is for money. It requires a lot of creativity and work. Thank you for reading.
