Yesterday i wrote about getting inspired from others work but i forget to mention respecting others works and rights. Do not copy images and photographs, first it is not a respectful act and second it makes your work less valuable. Showing the viewers same pictures won’t draw attention so do not repeat yourself or others, try to surprise them instead. Copying others and repeating yourself makes you just an ordinary photographer, don’t be an ordinary photographer!

To be a respected photographer you have to make your own style and show your uniqueness. Try to show things with different angles and ways that never used before. Add something from you to your work. For example taking an ordinary landscape picture won’t make people say “Wow!”, but including your style and your creativity in the picture can make people appreciate your work. Again to create your own style view as many good photographs of experienced photographers as possible, and understand what is a style. Style is the thing which makes the viewers know the picture belongs to you without seeing your name. Creating your own style is a long process and takes time. It is also related with experience, honestly i cannot say i have my own unique style but i have some techniques and certain things belongs only to me and that i like to use. I’m in the beginning of the road of photography. I can honestly say i don’t have a style, YET!!! I’m trying different categories of photography and i recommend you to do the same. This is the only way to find out which category is the ONE for you. I know so many young photographers that claims they have a style, some of them have indeed, but the rest of them are just repeating themselves with boring work.
Everything in your work can help you develop your own style, you may have a unique composition, use of light, certain types of models, silhouettes, exposure, point of view, patterns, reflections etc. After you learn most of the techniques and rules in photography, experiment and try different things. Having a style is not repeating yourself with same boring subjects and techniques and creating same photograph each time, it is far beyond that. Of course you’ll repeat some techniques but in a creative way. When I’m viewing the works of some photographers and i’m saying “Oh! Same picture with a different model!”, i’m sure you seen this kind of portfolios before. The point is having a style without repeating yourself with same boring pictures each time.
But it is really hard to tell somebody how to create his/her own style. What you can do is,trying different categories of photography, taking a lot of spontaneous shots and viewing successful works. As i said before it is about time, don’t expect to create your own style immediately. Learn, practice, be creative and try to think outside of the box. This is all i can say…
